Well, I spent New Years Eve with at least one Brit. NYE went from a quiet dinner, a beer and a movie to many beers and a total blast. The plan was to eat a nice dinner at Sapphire, then stop by Suttree’s High Gravity Tavern for a beer or two then head home to watch “The Artist” and call it a night. Well, none of that happened.
I arrived at Sapphire and ordered a Guinness with a plan to have the veggie burger. It turns out they were having a huge NYE party (duh) and had a limited menu which did not include said veggie burger. Oh well, Guinness is a good appetizer. I then got a text from Matt and Saundra. They were coming downtown and had a hotel room for the night. I suspected right then that things might get a little crazier than I had originally planned. Being a downtown dino, I have learned to be flexible with my plans.
I walked around the Square trying to figure out where to grab a quick meal that would be a good base for possibly a little too much beer. Soccer Taco seemed like a good choice and the bar had a couple of open seats. I did indeed get my belly full and had a Dos Equis Amber and Pacifico Clara, the latter of which was better than I thought it would be!
Next I headed to Suttree’s to snag a table. There was already a small crowd gathering. You definitely got a NYE vibe from the crowd. I started out the evening with a couple of Terrapin Beer Company Wake-n-Bake Coffee Oatmeal Imperial Stouts. Excellent choice. This is a great beer with a coffee nose. It had a nice bitter taste and a great dark chocolate flavor. I might have had one later in the evening but can’t be sure.
My friends showed up and I couldn’t help showing off my shadow animal skills. Yes, I know it’s only a dino but I am balancing upside down on an Atwater Vanilla Java Porter.
The night was in full swing when Matt magically appeared at the table with a bottle of champagne and glasses on hand. We all got very excited. For some reason (probably all of the beer I had consumed) it never even occurred to me to have the NYE toast with champagne. It was VERY good champagne and I want to thank Matt for thinking of our group. Our numbers had dwindled as some of the younger members went to Market Square to watch the ball drop.
Ol’ Saccy was perfectly happy to stay in the warmth of Suttree’s. The countdown was very exciting and we had kisses and a festive toast to welcome the New Year. It was great. The rest of the pics are random and feature some of the hairless primates that I enjoy spending time with. My camera crew was getting a little crazy so some of the pictures are not great but you get the idea.

Ratchet and Katie looking fabulous!
Ol’ Saccy even scored a kiss from Saundra. You can check out her awesome blog here: Miss Teacher. I look forward to her posts!
Brooklyn Brewery Local 2. Ratchet chose this Belgian Strong Dark Ale and shared. It was delicious and just what I needed…more beer.
Saundra looking cute in the 2013 glasses. No idea where they came from but we all tried them on at least once.
2013 definitely arrived with a bang and the evening couldn’t have been more perfect. Thanks to everyone for making it such an awesome evening.
