A beer is the perfect reward!

While the ” snow storm” last week was beautiful, it made getting around a little difficult. I made it home ok on Tuesday but I woke up Wednesday morning and not only was it snowy and icy, it was 8 degrees outside! Well, Ol’ Saccy is not a fan of the cold. I decided to try to go to work but would wait a couple of hours for it to warm up a bit. I grabbed the ipad and went on the KAT website to figure out my options. There weren’t many. No trolleys were running and the buses were on the “severe conditions snow routes”. Yikes. First thing I did was crawl back into bed with the dog and a book. After about half an hour I decided to give it a try. I bundled up and took off. Of course, the waiting until it got a little warmer backfired. Instead of rising, the temperature dropped to 2 degrees. What the ????. Anyway, I walked over to what appeared (on the bus map) to be a main corridor and could not find a bus stop anywhere. I may have been partially blinded by my giant hood. I got frustrated and decided to walk to work. It was doable only because the wind wasn’t blowing. A mile and a half in 2 degree weather is not this dino’s idea of a good time. I made it without busting my ass one time which was miraculous. Apparently my better half wasn’t so lucky and did a half split in one of the alleys. The point of this story is my reward at the end of the day. A kind co-worker volunteered to give me a ride home which I gladly accepted. While we were driving down Clinch Avenue my phone rang. It was my spouse telling me he ran into one of our friends while walking home and he wanted to go out for a beer. YES. I was dropped off on Gay Street right in front of Suttree’s High Gravity Tavern where I grabbed a seat at the bar. Things were looking up.

I hadn’t been to Suttree’s High Gravity Tavern in several days so there were quite a few beers I had not tried. For my first beer I opted for a Flying Dog Raging Bitch Belgian IPA. It had a sweet nose with bitterness to follow. I enjoyed it greatly. I thought the Belgian style made it interesting.

My second choice was a Green Flash Brewing Hop Odyssey Columbus Double IPA. Another excellent choice. It was a hop bomb which made me happy. It made the troubles of the day fade away and definitely warmed me up. The bar was getting pretty full by the time we left. It appeared that lots of people need a little warming up.

This Saturday is the Tennessee Winter Beer Fest in Townsend. I think we’ve managed to find some tickets. If it all works out, maybe I’ll see you there!
